A serving member of the Guyana Prison Service was remanded to prison on Monday, October 16, 2017, for allegedly assaulting a co-worker.

George Solomon, 40, of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he denied the charge.

It is alleged that on October 7, 2017, at the Camp Street Prison, Solomon unlawfully assaulted a Police Constable who was acting in accordance with his duties. Police Prosecutor, Richard Harris objected to the Prison Officer being granted bail on the grounds that he was once charged and convicted for a similar offence.

According to the prosecutor, Solomon was convicted of assaulting an orderly at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court and for assaulting two underage females. He was remanded until November 6, 2017.
