Public-spirited citizens save woman during robbery

A 35-year-old woman was Tuesday evening saved during a robbery by public-spirited citizens and one of three perpetrators has been caught.

According to the police, the woman, who is a hairdresser, was making her way home on foot at Dr Carter Street, Non-Pariel on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) when she was attacked by three bandits who were armed with makeshift weapons.

News Room understands that the victim is the daughter of People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Member of Parliament (MP) Gillian Burton-Persaud. The police said the public-spirited citizens responded to the woman’s cry for help and captured one of the suspects.

The other two made their good escape with the stolen items which include a handbag containing cash and a cellular phone.
