Pedestrian killed in Vreed-en -Hoop accident
A 27-year-old resident of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara was this morning killed in an accident on the Vreed-en -Hoop Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Police said initial investigations revealed that at about 03:45hrs on Sunday, Donikel Campbelle allegedly ran across the public road into the path of motorcar PRR 5279 driven by a 40-year-old resident of Company Path, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
It was stated that the motorcar collided with Campbelle and as a result of the impact, he fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries to the head and body.
He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in a conscious state by an ambulance, where he received medical attention and was admitted.
However, he succumbed hours later.
The driver, who is in custody and assisting with the investigation, underwent a breathalyzer test but no alcohol as detected in his breath.
