The funds were approved as part of the Council’s budget, which was recently passed.

The amount budgeted for the Town Clerk is the highest across the other departments catering for similar purchases.

According to the breakdown of the Town Clerk’s operating cost, the telephone and electricity charges will go up this year to $5M and $9M respectively.

News Room understands that Councillors met last week to discuss the draft budget of over $3 billion.

However, a number of councillors including the Deputy Mayor Lionel Jaikaran left the meeting early.

Nonetheless, the budget was passed with a majority vote given that the meeting had a quorum.
