The body of a fisherman was found with his throat slit just after noon on Thursday at the Number 65 fishing Port.

Dead is Devanand Jailall called “Shetty” of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. His body was found in the boat he used for work.

His sister, Dhanmattie Rampersaud, who arrived at the scene shortly after learning of her brother’s sudden demise, said she was shocked and in disbelief since it was only Wednesday last that “Shetty” visited her house; however, she was not at home.

She said he left a message indicating that he really wanted to see his 14-year-old son and that he would return the very next day; instead, she received news of his death. He was already removed from the scene and taken to the Skeldon Hospital Mortuary before she reached Berbice.

At the scene, blood stains were still visible on the boat, named “Master Roberto”, where Jailall’s body was found.

At the fish port, fishermen were tight-lipped about the incident but said there was a fight between Jailall and another person earlier in the day.

Three persons have been held by Police for questioning.
