Taxi Driver charged with rape
A 37-year-old Taxi Driver was today charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Subbaschand Harrichan of Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plea to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that on December 1 and December 31, 2016, in Georgetown, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.
Harrichan did not have legal representation.
With no objection from Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, the accused was released on $150,000 bail.
The case is adjourned to July 5.
