GDF ranks under close arrest for alleged rape, robbery
Two Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ranks are under close arrest for the alleged rape and robbery of a woman near the Army Barracks in Anna Regina on Saturday.
A statement from the GDF on Monday confirmed that the two ranks, attached to the 6 Infantry Battalion, are assisting the police with their investigations.
News Room understands that the alleged incident occurred at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground at around 10:30pm.
Reports indicate that the woman and her male partner were at the ground when the ranks attacked.
It is alleged that the GDF ranks instructed the woman to perform a sexual act on her partner but when she refused, the men allegedly sexually assaulted her.
