Speeding car kills Berbice pensioner on pedestrian crossing
A 81-year-old pensioner of Nigg, Corenytne Berbice died Tuesday after being struck down on a pedestrian crossing by a speeding car.
Dead is Parvidi Ramcharran.
Police Headquarters said the accident occurred at about 10:35hrs on the Nigg Public Road.
According to reports, the car was being driven by a 29-year-old man of Robb Street, Georgetown who was proceeding at a fast rate along the southern carriageway on the road when he slammed into Ramcharran who was crossing the road.
She sustained severe injuries to her head and body and was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver was tested negative for alcohol and is in custody assisting with the investigation.
