Ahmed, Singh and Mohamed dominate National Race of Champions

Mohamed F. Ahmed, Chet Singh and Rameez Mohamed won their respective groups in round one of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s National Race of Champions held Sunday at South Dakota Circuit.

Ahmed won all three Sport Tuner races, while Adrian Fernandes and Shahab Roshandin were also consistent on the podium. Group Two saw a clean sweep by Chet Singh, while Mohamed did the identical in the Starlet Cup.

Stefan Jeffrey won two Group three races, while Superstock success went to Kevin Persaud and Raveiro Tucker. In the Street class, Shem Chattersingh was the champion rider.

Those winners took home the bulk of the trophies when the club held the awards ceremony for the race meet Monday evening at Windjammer International Hotel’s spanking new banquet hall.

The top five riders were $50,000, compliments of KFC Guyana. A similar reward would be in place for the other two circuit events this year.

The next event is on March 15, the first round of Drag Racing.

GMR&SC Vice-President Shiraz Roshandin

Recently elected Vice-President, Shiraz Roshandin, asked competitors to be more involved in the marketing of races and sign up in a timely manner. The VP contended it is difficult for the club to properly market the race meets if competitors do not express an early interest.

Roshandin further disclosed that come next meet all competitors will have to be in full protective suits as the club looks to enforce safety and stay in line with FIA regulations.

Rameez Mohamed took all the honours in the Starlet Cup

Scrutineering is another area the club will look to improve on, according to the executive.

He explained the Club is keen on ensuring drivers minimise on oil leaks and improve on other safety aspects of their vehicles. As such, more stringent checks would be conducted.

A recommendation was made to the have copies of the rule book available for members at the club.
