23-Y-0 gold miner reportedly drowns
Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old gold miner who reportedly drowned at Nine Miles Kuburi Backdam on Wednesday.
Dead is Roger Alert of Brighton Village Corentyne Berbice. Police Headquarters said he was employed in the said backdam on an operation owned by his father.
On the day in question, he was heading to a nearby shop with two other employees and they attempted to cross a small stream when the current drifted Alert away.
His body was subsequently recovered the following day.
Police said that due to recent heavy rain in the area it had caused excessive flooding.
Ranks have been dispatched to the scene to investigate.
