Director of Sport Christopher Jones has been fired with immediate effect.

The News Room understands that Jones actually had his contract renewed at the end of March, weeks after the elections when it was clear the Coalition had lost.

The News Room has learnt that Jones was sent his letter of dismissal Monday morning by Charles Ramson Jr., the newly appointed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport.

Jones managed much of the Coalition’s elections campaign and engaged in a highly publicized verbal confrontation with then Opposition leader Bharrat Jagdeo outside of the Ashmin’s building in Georgetown when it was cleared that the vote tabulation was being doctored.

Jones was later a leading voice for the Coalition in trying to defend the electoral fraud intended to keep APNU+AFC in office.
