Prime Minister, CIOG urge unity on Youman Nabi

The Central Islamic Organisation (CIOG) on Thursday held its Youman Nabi Service at the Anna Catherina Mosque, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Attending the event was Prime Minister Brigadier (ret’d) Mark Phillips who encouraged citizens to be more tolerant of each other.
“We are encouraged to look at what unites us over what divides us,” he told those gathered at the Mosque.

Youman Nabi marks both the birth and death anniversaries of Islam’s Holy Prophet Mohammad, whose teachings surround peace and togetherness.

“His [prophet Mohammad] message is one of peace, love and brotherhood,” he stated.
He spoke of several social issues which exist noting that they all go against the teachings of Islam.
The Muslim leader said respect for every person also means respecting women –stopping sexual, domestic and all forms of violence against women –protecting children, ensuring there is morality in every profession and treating all with dignity.
“The way you treat the children of others today, that is how the next generation will treat yours,” he told those gathered.
