Leitch’s five-for sinks GNIC after tons from Anderson and Sampson

Police Sports Club (PSC) defeated Guyana National Industrial Company Incorporated (GNIC) by an innings and 100 runs when the Georgetown Cricket Association First-Division two-day tournament resumed at the weekend.
Lanky off-spinner Kelvin Leitch spun his magic for returns of 5-25 in 6.3 overs which cemented the dominant weekend by the hosts.
With a deficit of 194, GNIC were bundled out in their second innings for 94 in 25.3 overs with David Dick (27) being the top-scorer; he had some support from Jerimiah Benjamin (13) and Jermaine Grosvenor (12).
Antony Adams had 2-21 in 11 overs, while there was a wicket apiece for Ronsford Beaton (1-13) and Quintin Sampson (1-18).
Police had resumed the day on 242-6 with Kevlon Anderson on 93; he progressed to 106 before being struck in front.
While Anderson’s ton was more sedate, Sampson struck nine maximums and five fours in a 55-ball 106.
The duo shared a 177-run stand which brought the lawmen back into the game after being 68-6. Beaton at number 11, cracked a quick 22, which got PSC over the 300-run mark. Dwain Dick took 4-75 in 20 overs while Benjamin had 2-36.
In GNIC’s first innings, they were dismissed for 110 in 40 overs led by Beaton with 4-31 in nine overs and Alex Algoo with 2-6 and Adams 2-29.
Benjamin made 33, while the next best scores were Grosvenor (17) and David Dick (11).
