A 73-year-old woman from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) is now the country’s latest COVID-19 death, taking the overall death toll since March 2020 to 246.

The Ministry of Health in a statement said the woman died on Sunday, April 4, while receiving care at a medical facility.

The Ministry earlier on Monday reported that two males, a 59-year-old and a 44-year-old also died while receiving care on Sunday, April 4.

This means that nine persons have died within two days, while the latest fatality is the 13th death to be recorded for the month thus far; a total of 36 persons died in March, making it one of the deadliest months for COVID-19 here.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
  • and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
