Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board and the Economic and Financial Analyst of the European Union Task Force Unit of Ministry of Finance, Pretipaul Jaigobin, died in an accident on April 1, 2021

Police on Thursday morning reported that a post mortem showed that Economic and Financial Analyst, Pretipaul Jaigobin, died of multiple injuries when the vehicle he was travelling in crashed on April 1, 2021.

Jaigobin, 54, of Low Lands, East Coast Demerara, and three other persons were travelling in a black Toyota Tundra along the Mahdia access road about five kilometres from the Mabura Police Outpost when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to topple multiple times.

The post mortem was conducted on Wednesday by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh. Police said the body was first identified by Vishraj Singh and Dindial Persaud – cousins of the deceased- in the presence of police.

The body was then handed over to the relatives for cremation.

Jaigobin worked at the Ministry of Finance and was also Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board.

President Irfaan Ali, who worked with Jaigobin at the Ministry of Finance, expressed sadness at his “tragic death.”

In 2010, Jaigobin, the then Assistant Treasurer of the Guyana Cricket Board, was doused with acid in the face at Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, where he had stopped to make a purchase.

In a statement, Minister of Finance Dr. Ashhni Singh said “Jai” was “a highly valued and much loved” member of the Ministry of Finance family.

“He was a dedicated and trustworthy team player, and a warm and lively personality.

“He will never be forgotten,” Dr. Singh stated.
