Mazaruni prison escapee captured in Port Mourant

An inmate who escaped from the Mazaruni prison in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) on April 9, 2021, was recaptured in Ankerville, Port Mourant Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) just before midnight on Saturday.

Police Headquarters said that Kevin LaFleur was found alone at a house in the area at around 23:30hrs.

The suspect gave his name as Mark Thomas but was positively identified.  He was arrested and is presently in custody at Central Police Station, New Amsterdam.

On the day of the escape, police had said that the 25-year-old convict, “made a run for his freedom into the bushes aback the prisons.”

LaFleur is serving a sentence of 56 months for robbery under arms.
