Statement by the Georgetown Cricket Club

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) extends congratulations and best wishes to our longstanding Club members and outstanding West Indian batsmen, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan for being awarded Honourary Life Membership of the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Highly regarded as the world’s most active cricket club, the owner of Lord’s Ground and the guardian of the Laws of Cricket, the MCC only bestows Honourary Life Membership to those who have made an exceptional contribution to the game.

The GCC believes the two legendary Guyanese batsmen richly deserve to join the elite group of the world’s cricketers who have achieved this honour, particularly because of their exemplary contribution to cricket, both on and off the field, which has brought great pride and joy to the West Indies, Guyana and the GCC.

The GCC salutes Chanderpaul and Sarwan for joining this select group of Honourary Life Members of MCC, which only includes six other great Guyanese cricketers: J.S. Solomon (1973); R.B. Kanhai (1981); L.R. Gibbs (1983); Sir Clive Lloyd, C.B.E. (1988); A.I. Kallicharran (1992); and C.L. Hooper (2018).

As members of their home club, we know how hard these two cricketers worked for their success and we offer them our unreserved congratulations on their achievement of yet another well-earned reward.
