Raymond Waldron killed the cat and left it hanging on the gate

A Lancaster Village, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, resident was on Friday fined $20,000 for killing a cat.

Raymond Waldron, popularly known as ‘Tongue Man’, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that during the month of November 2021 at Lancaster Village, he unlawfully and maliciously killed a tom cat.

Police Corporal David Goodridge told the court that on November 19, at about 15:00hrs, animal activist Syeada Manbodh of the Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA), reported to the police that someone sent her a photograph on Facebook of a cat hanging on a metal gate.

The person on Facebook also provided the information for Waldron. As a result, the police visited Waldron’s residence during which he admitted to killing the cat.

Waldron reportedly told the police, “I chop the cat cause he kill nuff a me chicken, me didn’t intend to kill it.”

If Waldron fails to pay the $20,000 fine, he will have to spend two weeks in prison.
