COVID: over 5,000 active cases, 17 in ICU

A 66-year-old unvaccinated woman of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) who died on February 7 is Guyana’s latest COVID-19 death, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.

Her death has now increased February’s death toll to 12 while overall, a total of 1,181 have died since March 2020.

Meanwhile, a total of 16 new COVID infections were recorded from 394 tests, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 61, 616.

The new cases were recorded in the following regions: Region One (one case), Region Two (five cases), Region Three (four cases), Region Four (five cases) and Region Seven (one case).

There are 17 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 111 in institutional isolation and 5, 242 in home isolation.

There are a total 5,369 active cases and to date, 55, 064 people have recovered from the virus.
