Security guard charged with murdering father of four

A 22-year-old security guard was charged and remanded to prison for the murder of Collin McPherson, a 43-year-old father of four.

Gregory France of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown made his appearance before Magistrate Russell Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

He was not required to plea to the charge and was remanded until July 12, 2022. The News Room understands that France was arrested on Friday last.

Meanwhile, Regional Commander Simon McBean, during an interview with the News Room, debunked reports in sections of the media that France had reportedly confessed to the crime. Commander McBean made it clear that there was no confession.

McPherson was fatally shot on Thursday last while liming with friends outside of his ‘D’ Field, Sophia house.

According to the police report, the shooting occurred at about 21:40hrs.

McPherson was first shot while outside and managed to run inside of his house and started shouting ‘close the door!’

His 18-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter, his nephew and two other teenagers were home at the time of the shooting.

They all ran and hid when the gunman entered the house. McPherson was shot four times; once to his groin, his shoulder, leg and arm.

According to an eyewitness, the gunman was dressed in a blue shirt, and dark-coloured pants; he was slim and fair in complexion and was wearing a blue facemask.

McPherson was employed with the Ministry of Health as a driver for the past two years.
