Brandon King stroked highest ODI score, Keacy Carty played a solid hand in his first knock in international cricket and Akeal Hosein picked up career-best figures as West Indies defeated the Netherlands by five wickets in the second ODI on Thursday.

Victory in Amstelveen secured West Indies a series win after a seven-wicket success in the first game on Tuesday. The series wraps up on Saturday, starting at 05:00h.

Set a target of 215, West Indies slipped to 60-4 by the 16th over with first game centurion Shai Hope (18), fellow opener Shamarh Brooks (6), Nkrumah Bonner (15) and skipper Nicholas Pooran (10) all dismissed.

King and Kyle Mayers (22) added 39 for the fifth wicket, but Netherlands still held the upper hand at 99-5 in the 24th over.

However, King and Carty, the latter batting for the first time in ODIs after making his debut in the last game, dented the hosts hope of a series-levelling victory, adding an unbroken 118 in 22.1 overs to seal the win with 27 balls remaining.

King followed up his unbeaten 58 in the series opener with a fine 91 not out off 90 balls (9x4s, 3x6s), while Carty ended on 43 off 66 (2x4s, 1×6). Bas de Leede took 2-46 for Netherlands.

Earlier, Netherlands chose to bat first and it seemed the right option as they coasted to an opening stand of 101 in 20.3 overs between Max O’Dowd (51) and Vikramjit Singh (46).

However, they lost wickets at regular intervals thereafter, with only Scott Edwards, batting at number three, getting into double-figures.

The wicketkeeper topscored with 68, as left-arm spinner Hosein ripped through the middle-order for figures of 4-39 and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph took 2-30.
