Superintendent of Police Alistair Roberts will be charged with the offence of acting in a manner likely to bring discredit to the Guyana Police Force after he instructed two junior ranks to follow the Leader of the Opposition, Aubrey Norton. The incident occurred at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara on June 13.

After an investigation was done by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), disciplinary charges were recommended.

Police Headquarters, in a statement on Wednesday, noted that Superintendent Roberts had denied that he gave the order to follow Norton.

In a video posted on Facebook, Norton who was leaving the family of Quindon Bacchus was observed being trailed by two ranks on motorcycles.

When Norton stopped his vehicle and confronted the ranks, they informed him they were only following orders.
