Man fined $30,000 for possession of one gram of ganja
Rico Cornelius, a 30-year-old miner of Lot 357 Charity Housing Scheme on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam), was charged on Monday with possession of a single gram of cannabis.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, stated that Cornelius appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Crystal Lambert via Zoom.
The charge was read to him and he pleaded guilty.
Subsequently, he was fined $30,000 with 90 hours of community service with not more than four hours per day until completion. It was noted any default on the defendant’s behalf will result in three years of imprisonment.
