Labourer hospitalised in critical state after chopped during argument over bicycle

A 56-year-old labourer is hospitalised in a critical condition after he was chopped about his body during an argument with a cane harvester on Friday.
Injured is Lawrence Rodrigues of Rose Hall Town, East Berbice Corentyne.
The News Room understands that Rodrigues was attacked with a cutlass after he reportedly removed a bicycle from the suspect’s premises.
The entire incident was caught on video by neighbours and it showed the victim on the ground yelling in pain while using the bicycle to protect himself from the multiple chops by the suspect.
Rodrigues was subsequently rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and admitted.
The suspect is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, a resident of the area revealed that the bicycle belongs to the victim and that he had lent the suspect it along with a pressure pot. The victim was reportedly collecting back his property but the suspect was refusing to hand it over.
This is what resulted in the argument and subsequent chopping.
