The United Kingdom (UK) has been working in partnership with Guyana to develop a  bespoke plan as part of the UK’s commitment to helping countries, especially Small Island Developing States, to develop their marine economies in a sustainable, resilient, and integrated way.

This was disclosed by UK’s Minister of State Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment), the Rt Hon Lord Goldsmith.

“We are delighted that this national Maritime Economy Plan, alongside Guyana’s updated Low Carbon Development Strategy articulates a strong vision of the Government to build a robust Blue Economy.” He said in a recent quote released by the British High Commission in Guyana.

Goldsmith said the UK knows that effective ocean protection will be critical in turning things around for climate, for nature, and for people.

“The UK Government remains committed to maintaining its track record as a reliable and committed development partner with Guyana in navigating this rapidly developing maritime sphere. We share one global ocean – so we need a whole earth effort to sustain it,” he added.
