Driver involved in fatal accident released on $250k bail
The truck driver involved in a fatal accident in January this year was on Wednesday charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving.
Dassrat Sookram, of Canefield, East Canje, Berbice appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Peter Hugh; he was not required to plea to the offence which stated that on January 10, 2023, he caused the death of 34-year-old Victor Alert, a resident of Rose Hall Town.
Sookram was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 and is slated to reappear in court on April 5, 2023.
The man was the driver of a Cevon’s Waste Management truck (GZZ 4248), which struck down Alert.
It is alleged that Alert ran into the path of the vehicle; he was pronounced dead at the Port Mourant Hospital.
