Miner arrested after Police find shotgun hidden in bushes at Imbaimadai
A 35-year-old miner was arrested on Monday following the discovery of an illegal shotgun, which he allegedly hid in some bushes at Imbaimadai, Region Seven.
Police Headquarters in a statement on Tuesday said ranks of Region Seven, acting on information received, went to the home of the suspect’s mother.
There, police said the woman claimed that her son, Derbia Veira came to her home around 06:00n hrs on Saturday with a firearm.
“The woman said she told her son to hide the firearm in some nearby bushes while contact was made with the Police and village Toshao,” Police Headquarters said.
She then took the ranks to the area where the firearm was found in some bushes. It was wrapped in plastic.
The firearm was seized and lodged at the Imbaimadai Police Station where it was examined and determined to be a 12-gauge shotgun.
Veira was contacted and told of the offence to which he admitted, Police said.
He is likely to be charged soon.
