Allicock punches into Round-of-16 at World Championships

Featherweight boxer Keevin ‘Lighting’ Allicock is through to the Round-of-16 stage at the ongoing International Boxing Association (IBA) World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Competing in the 54-57 kg category, Allicock won his opening fight against Yhlas Gylychjanov of Turkmenistan.

The referee had to put an end to the contest one minute and 33 seconds into the third and final round.

The prized Guyanese fighter now moves on to face the host’s Khalokv Abdumalik on Friday.

More so, Desmond Amsterdam will be in action on Friday when he competes with Bulgaria’s Kristiyan Nikolov in the 75-80kg (Light Heavyweight) category.

For the top boxers, there are more than just medals up for grabs as gold medallists will be awarded US$200,000, with the silver, and bronze medallists bestowed US$100,000, and US$50,000 respectively.
