Guyanese opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul was among four batsmen to score half-centuries as West Indies ‘A’ put on a solid batting performance on day one of the third and final Four-Day ‘Test’ against Bangladesh ‘A’ in Sylhet on Tuesday.

Winning the toss and electing bat first, West Indies ‘A’ leading the series 1-0, closed the opening day on a sturdy 320-6 from 82 overs.

Left-hander Chanderpaul again fell for 83 (158 balls; 9x4s, 1×6), the identical score he made in the drawn first match, adding valuable runs with skipper Joshua DaSilva and the in-form Alick Athanaze.

West Indies ‘A’ were in early trouble at 2-1 with opener Kirk McKenzie (0) and Zachary McCaskie (1) gone cheaply, before Chanderpaul and the other batsmen went about rebuilding.

Chanderpaul and Athanaze, who made 59 off 66 balls (7x4s, 2x6s), added 82 for the third wicket to stablise the innings. It was Athanaze’s second fifty of the series, after scoring 85 in the opening game.

Chanderpaul and DaSilva then put together 132 for the fourth wicket to further swing the momentum, with the skipper scoring 82 off 96 (12x4s, 2x6s).

Raymon Reifer closed the day on 56 off 90 (6x4s, 1×6), with Guyanese Kevin Sinclair 22 not out (52 balls; 3x4s) in an unbroken seventh wicket stand so far worth 60.

Guyanese Tevin Imlach was the other batsman to be dismissed; he made 10. Bowling for Bangladesh ‘A’, Nasum Ahmed has taken 3-92 off 26 overs and Musfik Hasan 2-50 off 13.
