The body of a 13-year-old boy who drowned on Tuesday in the Coomacka Mines beach area was found on Thursday morning found floating in the Upper Demerara River near the western side of Coomacka Beach.

Police Headquarters reported that Hasini Mack’s body was found at about 05:30 hrs.

At the time, the teen’s mother, community members, along with ranks from the Mackenzie Police Station, were continuing their search in the Coomacka mines beach area for the body of the deceased, the Police statement noted.

According to the Police report, the body was fished out of the river and examined by Detective Constable Wilson.

“No marks of violence were seen on the most exposed part of the body, which was then escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex, and pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty,” the Police report noted.

The body is at G-Jetsco Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. At around 14:00 hrs on August 29, Mack left his home in the company of a 29-year-old Canadian man and his 25-year-old wife and four young persons to go swimming at the beach.

There, Mack and the four children and the man went into the water where they were reportedly playing a few games.

At about 16:30 hrs, however, Mack and one of the other young people, a 14-year-old from Wismar, Linden went to wash off by the riverside. But as they began to walk towards the center of the river, the water started to flow at a fast rate which caused Hassini to sink.
