Section of Ramada hotel destroyed by fire

A fire of unknown origin gutted a section of the Ramada Princess Hotel at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Saturday night.
Quick action by firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to other sections of the building.

Reports are that the fire started just before 23:00hrs in one of the rooms situated on the fourth floor of the hotel.
The News Room understands that persons who were at the pool side of the hotel noticed thick smoke coming from the room. An alarm was raised and the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) was summoned.

A number of fire tenders were dispatched to the scene. And, within an hour after arriving, the fire was contained.
Guests were also evacuated. At the time, the hotel was reportedly booked to its capacity. Many of the guests were in the country for the ongoing Cricket Carnival and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

No injuries were reported. However, the section of the hotel where the fire broke out is said to have been damaged extensively.
An investigation is ongoing to determine what might have caused the fire.
