Army Head to be titled Chief of Defence from next year – President Ali
From 2025, the Head of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will be go by the designation Chief-of-Defence.
“This will be the last Officers conference (that) the term Chief-of-Staff will be used,” Command-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali announced on Thursday.
The Commander-in-Chief is currently addressing the opening of the GDF Annual Officers conference which is being held at Camp Base Ayanganna.
According to President Ali, the change is being made in keeping with the regional structure.
“So this year’s conference, will see the final use of the designation Chief-of-Staff,” President Ali noted.
For decades, the army head has been going by the title Chief-of-Staff.
Currently, the GDF Chief-of-Staff is Brigadier Omar Khan.
