Guyana Harpy Eagles soared to a 221-run victory over West Indies Academy in the third round of the West Indies Four-Day Championship at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua.

In pursuit of an improbable 429 for victory, West Indies Academy commenced the final day 161-7, still 268 away from the mammoth target.

However, they merely survived under an hour and added 46 more for the fall of the final three wickets that were shared by Isai Thorne and Veerasammy Permaul.

Carlon Bowen-Tuckett resumed his compact innings on 34 but became Thorne’s fourth victim when he attempted to pull a well-directed short-ball and fell for 43.

Guyanese Ashmead Nedd, who got a five-wicket haul in the Harpy Eagles’ second innings, then showed his skills with the bat via some expansive shots against Ronaldo Alimohaned and Veerasammy Permaul until the latter got him snapped up at deep mid-wicket for 26.

The triumph for Harpy Eagles was set up by a superb 165* not out by Kevin Sinclair on day three after he took four wickets in the first innings.

It was the first win of the season for the defending champions after drawing with Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and suffering a 273-run loss to Leeward Islands Hurricanes.

The Championship now takes a break and recommences on March 13.
