Woman, 34, arrested after cannabis found stashed in ceiling
Police have arrested a 34-year-old woman after they found 100 kilogrammes of cannabis which was hidden in a barrel in the ceiling of her Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) apartment.
Police headquarters in a statement said ranks, acting on information received, Friday went to the Backstreet, Grove, EBD apartment around 04:50hrs.
The suspect and her 57-year-old father occupy the house.
At the time of the operation, the woman and another female were present at the house.
Police said a search was carried out and a plastic barrel was found in the ceiling.
The barrel contained several bulky parcels, packed with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The woman was cautioned, arrested and taken to Police Division 4B Headquarters.
There the narcotics was weighted and it amounted to 101.7 kilogrammes.
The woman remains in custody pending further investigation.
