Navar George Barton, a 29-year-old Jamaican singer, was killed on Thursday at his residence, at Lot 125 Section ‘A’ South Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Barton was killed around 11:54hrs by a 37-year-old taxi driver from Sophia (said to be a friend of the deceased) and another man.

Several other individuals have been questioned, while the taxi driver is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.

Barton’s 19-year-old girlfriend told investigators that they were in a bedroom when they heard a knock at the door. The girlfriend claimed that Barton asked: “Is who?” but no one answered.

The woman recalled looking through a glass window when she saw the taxi driver and another man outside. Barton went to see what they wanted, and shortly after, his girlfriend heard an argument about money followed by two loud explosions, presumed to be gunshots.

When she checked, she found Barton lying motionless on the ground, bleeding from a head wound. The suspects were seen fleeing the scene.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) transported Barton to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Crime Scene Investigators recovered two 9mm spent shells and two metal fragments from the scene.

The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
