Guyana’s Women’s U19 side got their Regional Rising Stars campaign off to a winning start, defeating Trinidad and Tobago by four wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Thursday.

Batting first, Guyana posted a modest total of 94/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Realeanna Grimmond (28, 2x4s, 1×6) and Niya Latchman (25, 2x4s) were the top scorers for the visitors, providing some stability after openers Naomi Barkoye and Laurene Williams fell cheaply for nine runs apiece.

Trinidad and Tobago’s off-spinner Samara Ramnath was the pick of the bowlers, returning impressive figures of 2/11 from her four overs.

Chasing a relatively low target, the T&T batting order crumbled under Guyana’s bowling attack pressure.

Pacer Trisha Hardat ripped through the hosts’ lineup, claiming a sensational 4/12 spell in just four overs.

Latchman (1/11) and Danielle Manns (1/13) chipped in with crucial wickets to restrict Trinidad and Tobago to 90/6.

Despite none of the T&T top-five batters reaching double digits, a late fightback from Deliannys Espinoza (15), KD Jazz Mitchell (14), and Sameera Naidoo (12*) briefly threatened to steal the victory.

Guyana conceded 33 runs in extras, which proved insufficient to overcome the strong bowling performance.

Guyana will now look to build on their winning start when they take on Jamaica in their next encounter at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex on July 6th, with the first ball scheduled for 10:00 AM local time.
