Hinckson and Austin win gold at South American U-20 Championships

Guyana’s young athletes continued their strong showing at the South American U20 Championships in Peru, with Malachi Austin claiming gold in the 400m and Athaleyah Hinckson winning the women’s 100m.
Hinckson secured Guyana’s first gold medal of the championships with a time of 11.76 seconds in the women’s 100m.
She will not compete in the 200m final due to injury.
Austin, who previously won the CARIFTA Games U20 400m title, added another gold to his collection with a time of 47.21 seconds.
Tianna Springer, the reigning championship record holder in the women’s 400m, had to settle for bronze with a time of 55.12 seconds.
