Doctor injured in serious accident in Berbice

Elizabeth Albares Nabaro, a 32-year-old Venezuelan doctor at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, sustained severe head injuries in a serious road accident Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:50 hrs on Forth Canje Public Road, Berbice. Nabaro, who works in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit, was struck by a motor lorry while crossing the road near the hospital.
According to initial reports, the lorry, with registration number GAG 9366, is owned by Clive Mangal of Essex Street, New Amsterdam, and was being driven by 35-year-old Orin Archibald of Timmer’s Dam, Angoy’s Avenue.
The lorry was traveling east along the northern lane at what was described as a normal speed. Nabaro was walking on the northern footpath and attempted to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing when the collision occurred.
The driver of the lorry claimed that Nabaro stepped into the road as he approached the crossing, leading to the lorry’s left side colliding with her.
Following the impact, Nabaro fell onto the road and suffered significant head injuries. Bystanders quickly came to her aid and transported her to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she received initial treatment before being transferred to a specialized facility for further care.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the accident
