A 25-year-old man from Siriki Village in the Upper Pomeroon River was arrested on Wednesday night after police found him with over 28 grams of cocaine during a routine patrol.

Police said ranks from the Charity Police Station were on mobile patrol duty around 20:02 hrs in the Charity back street area, Essequibo Coast, when they spotted Devon Greaves, a labourer, acting suspiciously as they approached.

The ranks stopped their patrol vehicle, confronted Greaves and requested to search him — a request he reportedly agreed to.

A search turned up four transparent plastic bags containing whitish, rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine.

Greaves was immediately told of the offence and cautioned. He allegedly told the police: “Officer, I collected it from my soldier.”

The cocaine was seized and weighed, amounting to 28.2 grams. Greaves was taken into custody at the Charity Police Station as investigations continue.
