The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) will convincingly win the upcoming General and Regional Elections because it has positioned itself as the party with the expertise and that can be trusted, General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo said on Thursday.

The party’s General Secretary, who is also Guyana’s Vice President, said he could confidently- not arrogantly- predict that the party will win the elections by a “handsome margin.” For him, that belief is rooted in the conviction that the party delivered on its promises and improved people’s lives.

“We go into these elections as the party that has the greatest capability of putting together sustainable plans and implementing those plans. And that requires capable, trusted and experienced leadership and our party stands ahead of all our competitors in that regard.

“They (voters) are not going to put their futures at risk by taking chances on people who don’t even have a clear agenda for the future and making promises that you know will never be implemented,” the General Secretary said.

He reminded reporters at his press conference that the PPP/C delivered on its promises over the past five years, from lowering taxes to reviving key sectors such as rice, sugar, and mining. He also pointed out the nation’s major achievements from the Local Content Law, a commitment made by the PPP/C in the lead-up to the 2020 elections.

Looking ahead, he said the PPP/C is committed to increasing the benefits and remuneration of public sector workers, part-time employees, and families, pledging more benefits and opportunities.
