A 32-year-old man is now dead after he was stabbed to death during a fight with his drinking buddy on Monday at Puttering Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River.

Dead is Clasen Joseph, a resident of Karaudarnau Village, Region Nine.

Police Headquarters confirmed the incident which occurred at about 17:00 hrs Monday.  They said the suspect was arrested and is being transported to Bartica as the investigation continues.

Reports are that Joseph and the suspect are known to each other as they worked together at a dredge.

According to a Police report, on the day in question Joseph, the suspect and a group of other men who worked with them went to the landing at Puttering Backdam where they began to imbibe alcohol.

At about 14:00 hrs, as the men were heading back to the camp, an argument ensued between Joseph and the suspect. The argument escalated into a fight.

“They were eventually parted after which the victim (Joseph) allegedly dealt the suspect one slap which caused the suspect to retaliate by hitting the victim to the head with a spanner,” Police explained

Joseph, the Police said then drew a knife and attempted to stab the suspect, who managed to disarm him and used the same knife to stab him to his lower left side rib cage. Joseph collapsed and died.
